Mabel Dawson RSW SSA (1887-1965) 

Born in Edinburgh 13th October 1887. Painter of birds, animals, landscape, children flowers and interiors using watercolour and tempera. Mabel Dawson studied at Edinburgh College of Art under Robert McGregor (qv) and in London under Frank Calderon and William Walls (qv). She lived in Edinburgh for many years and as well as animals she loved capturing east coast fishing villages in a fluent, wet style, not unlike Emily Patterson (qv). She kept a studio at 8 Palmerston Place after moving from 130 George Street in 1943. Also known for her embroidery.
Elected SSA 1970, RSW 1917. Exhibited RA(1), RSA(78), RSW(95), GI(91), AAS(3) & L(10).
